My wonderful girlfriends had a baby shower for me and the twins at the hospital yesterday. They did such a wonderful job making the room look beautiful with flowers, balloons, yummy food, etc. It was the first time I felt like a "normal" pregnant woman in a while. It was nice to fix my hair, put on makeup a cute dress and even real shoes (as opposed to the pink slippers I wear every other day). We got lots of cute and practical stuff to help us take care of these babies when once they arrive.
As I was lounging on the couch looking around at all these wonderful ladies, I started thinking about our friendships. Most of the girls were my sorority sisters at SMU. I realized a long time ago that we're very lucky to have such a great group that has stayed friends for so many years, but the amazing thing is how these friendships have evolved. You'll hear people say that friends just naturally go their separate ways after college...that didn't happen. Then you'll hear that friendships will dissolve after marriage...that hasn't happened either. Now some of us are starting families and our friendships are still going strong. I hope we all continue to support each other over the next ten (or so) years like we have the last ten (or so)!
Thanks to Jenn, Sara, Lauren, Karen, Suzanne, Meridith, and Brooke for hosting such a great shower and thanks to everyone to came to shower me and twins with so much love, support, and gifts. I loved all of your "presentations" and appreciate you all giving up a Saturday afternoon to hang out with me at the hospital.
Random observation: People in the hospital are very curious...as we celebrated in the Perot patio which is an open area in sort of the center of the 4th floor, we had quite the audience. We continuously saw people up on the fifth floor looking down at us including an entire tour full of expectant parents. Can you imagine if they knew that the orange juice was spiked? Also, nurses LOVE leftover food...remember that if you're ever in the hospital (please note: they did not get the leftover orange juice).
