Goal #2 - 28 weeks- CHECK!

28 weeks - woot! The babies are growing right on schedule. Baby A is 2 lbs. 6 oz. and Baby B is 2 lbs. 7 oz. Baby B was being a little stubborn again so we didn't get a good look at him, but he did have his arm resting on Baby A's head for a while. At one point Brandon thought they looked as if they were doing fist pumps. I think they were cheering for my lengthened cervix which is up to 1.6 from .8 last week. As I was reminded (again) these fluctuations occur so I'm not cured and I shouldn't get discouraged if it's shorter next month, blah, blah, blah.

As I've mentioned before, getting to 28 weeks is a big milestone for us. The babies have about a 90% survival rate if they were to make a super early appearance, although they would still need a lengthy stay at the NICU. Brandon and I will schedule a consultation and a tour with the NICU soon...a little birdie told me the best days to go (according to staff) so I'm going to use that as my guide. The head labor and delivery nurse also made her weekly visit today and she went through the process of admission, prep for c-section, the actual surgery, recovery, etc. She was very thorough without being scary and covered everything from the color of the stuff they put on my belly before cutting to how I will be lying on the operating table to what happens post surgery. I really appreciate the information. She told me to email her if I have any other questions...I hope she doesn't regret that offer!

The monitoring is still going pretty well. The last few days we've done it around 11:30 and apparently it's their nap time. I usually have to drink some apple juice to wake them up a little to get the accelerations to show up on the monitor. It's nice to get the reassurance each day that they are doing well; that is one thing I'll miss when I get to go home.

Random observation: Someone lost a huge pink bear balloon. I saw it stuck on the ceiling during my wheelchair ride to the sonogram this morning. I'm trying to be more observant and aware of things when I'm out of my room and this is the one thing I noticed this morning. I bet the person who lost it was sad because those things aren't very cheap!
