Friday morning we had our weekly sonogram. The babies looked great...good fluid amounts, healthy blood flow, etc. I got home, ate lunch and took a little nap. I got up to go to the restroom and my water broke...this was around 2:00. About 2 mintues later I was having the most intense cramps, so back to the hospital we went. By the time we got checked in to labor and delivery and got hooked up to monitors it was clear that I was having intense contractions pretty close together; the nurse checked my cervix and I was already dilated 5cm. The on call doctor (young Richards) came in and told me he was calling my OB and that we would be having babies pretty soon. The next think knew I was being wheeled into the operating room and getting an epidural. It was all happening so fast but I felt extremely comfortable with these doctors having spent so much time on bed rest and the head l&d nurse that I mentioned in an earlier blog post stayed as well. Brandon sat right next to me and we just listened to the doctors carry on a perfectly normal conversation while we waited for that first cry.
Charlotte Lynn Fowler was born at 4:53pm weighing 4lbs. 8oz. Brooks Matthew Fowler was born at 4:54pm weighing 4lbs. 15oz. They were both 17 1/4 in. long.
They came right into recovery with us and so far have needed no time in the NICU or special care nursery. Their temperatures, jaundice levels, and other vitals are being monitored closely due to gestational age and they both passed their hearing tests this week.
Thank you all so much for all the thoughts and prayers; we appreciate it very much. I know you all can't wait to them and we can't wait to show them off but we have to had to limit visitors these first few days because of how tiny they are; they need all of their energy to eat and hold body temperatures. Brandon and I are beyond grateful to have two beautiful and healthy babies. Words cannot express how blessed we are!
