I can't even count how many people have told me to do this. However, no one has shared exactly how this happens. When do you eat, shower, wash bottles, do laundry, return phone calls and emails? I suppose I could be doing it right now, but they will wake up in 15 mintues to eat so it's not really worth it.
For the most part, Brooks and Charlottle sleep pretty well between feedings. We've had a few really off nights where one or the other is up the entire night, but luckily the good nights outnumber the bad (so far). We are trying to follow Babywise and have some wake time after they eat. This is harder than it sounds; they are still so young that they just fall right back asleep after they eat and when awake aren't really all that interactive, but at least we're trying to get this pattern established. Some of our activities include bath time, daily walks, tummy time, and just song/story time. I'm sure I look crazy sitting here singing to these tiny babies, but everything I've heard/read promises that the babies really benefit from this no matter how terrible I think my voice sounds! So far everyone's favorite song is "Old McDonald had a Farm."
Brandon was home all last week which was really fun and we even got out of the house to go somewhere other than the doctor's office. We can't really take them in public until their two month immunizations, but the doctor said that we could go somewhere that is not crowded with very low risk of people trying to touch them (that topic may be a whole other post...I will never understand why strangers think it's appropriate to touch other people's babies). We went to Bass Pro Shop in the middle of the day last week. Brandon wanted to get his tackle box set up for the spring/summer and we got the babies some life jackets for some (very slow) summer boat rides. One guy came up to me and it was only because he and his wife just had boy/girl twins and he kept his distance.
Here's a picture of Brooks and Charlotte in their new life jackets.
We go back to the doctor next week for their one month check ups so I'll have an update on their weights at that time.
Hi Lady! Soooo cute!!! I hope all is well, I have been trying to let you rest and not call all the time :) And you are so right... with two there is just no time to sleep, now or ever. I just finally let the idea go until they slept through the night. We used 20 bottles a day for a while there with a load of laundry a day... I am sure you all are in the same boat. We are thinking about you all the time. Jenn
