Bed rest

One year ago today I was admitted to the hospital for what would be a very long stay. I was initially there for 73 days and then another 2 day stay a few weeks after going home. Sometimes when I think about it, I can't believe that all in all, I was on bed rest either in the hospital or at home for 13 weeks. I just went back and read the blog posts from the hospital days and it was pretty interesting.

Here are a few points of interest:
  • When I was admitted, I was just shy of 22 weeks pregnant. They had told me that they couldn't do anything to save the babies until 24 weeks so that became the goal.
  • The ultimate goal became 34 weeks which we surpassed...yay!
  • I think my random observations from the hospital were funny but I can see how a lot of people may have found them pretty useless.
  • I mentioned quite a few times that Charlotte was always moving her legs, kicking like crazy and having the hiccups. This is all true of Charlotte today (though the hiccups have dissipated quite a bit). She is literally always moving her legs.
  • I talked about Brooks being shy or stubborn. He is not shy at all; he is actually quite the ham when the camera is out. He may be a little stubborn...again, not sure where he gets that :)
  • I am so grateful to all of you for the thoughts and prayers during that time. I had so many people, some of whom I've never met, praying for us and it worked.
  • Bed rest strengthened my faith and for that I will always be grateful.
  • I'm pretty proud at how Brandon and I handled everything and remained a team...a very strong team!

A lot of people told me that I would be begging for bed rest again and so far that is just not true. I love being on the go all the time and I especially love getting back to running and taking the kids in the stroller when weather permits. Once they are super mobile, I may want some bed rest but I honestly doubt it. We'll see.

I am so thankful to be sitting here typing this post with two healthy sleeping babies in the next room. Even though I don't want to be on bed rest again, I would do it all again in a second to make sure those sweet babies were ok.

I have a friend in the same boat I was (she's even in my old room) and she will 34 weeks tomorrow!!! Hang in there, Ashley! You have done an amazing job!
